UL student research team wins the iGEM 2010

Slovenian student research team consisting of 10 students from the University of Ljubljana (Mattia Petroni, Jure Bordon, Rok Pustoslemšek and Rok Češnovar from Faculty of Computer and Information Science) placed first at The iGEM 2010 Jamboree contest held at MIT in Cambridge, MA, USA. In the tough competition of 130 teams they were trailed by groups from many prestigious universities such as University of Cambridge, TU-Munich, Imperial College London, Harvard, Berkley, MIT, Stanford and others.

 

Students from FRI contributed mostly by modeling chemical processes to support biological bistable oscillator, setting up Wikis, performing visual simulations and similar. The team was mentored by prof. Jerale from the National Institute of Chemistry, Slovenia. Project, which took roughly 5 months to prepare, also featured prof. Zimic, prof. Mraz and as.
